Leonardo DiCaprio Finally Wins Oscar
Leonardo DiCaprio has finally won his first Oscar after being nominated six times as best actor. DiCaprio won the award for his role in The Revenant, a survival film about a hunter in the 1820s. The film received three Oscars including one for Mexican film-maker Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, who became best director for the second consecutive year.
A bit surprisingly, Spotlight won the Oscar for the best film and best screenplay. The drama tells the story of Boston Globe journalists and their investigation into sexual abuse cases and their cover-up by the Roman Catholic Church.
Fury Awards took home the most awards, coming in first in a total of six technical categories.
Son of Saul , a Hungarian film about brutal death camps in Nazi Germany, received the Oscar for the best foreign language film. Italian film music legend Ennio Morricone was finally awarded his Oscar for the music in Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight. The 87-year old Morricone received the most emotional applause of the evening.
The 2016 ceremony at Los Angeles's Dolby Theatre was boycotted by some Hollywood celebrities because they thought there was not enough ethnic diversity in the nominee list. All 20 nominees for best or supporting actors and actresses were white.
